Cannot connect to an HP printer (7640, serscan.sys)
发布时间:2026-10-22 | 浏览:1
I'm having trouble setting up a new HP Envy 7640 all-in-one. When I try to establish a new wireless connection/during network printer installation, I get a windows error halfway through saying "The file 'serscan.sys' on windows cd is needed."
I did some searching online and the only article I found talked about this in the context of Windows XP (not my OS). It more or less said I should be able to find the file in a number of different locations:
C:\Windows\system32\drivers
C:\Windows\system32\dllcache
C:\Windows\Driver Cache\i386\driver.cab
But the last two file locations don't even exist on my machine and the file isn't in the first. I guess I shouldn't be surprised since the solution is in the context of XP.
So, ultimately, my question is what is this fiule and do I really need it to install my new printer? If so, where do I get it/find it?
Thanks for the help.

Anonymous 2015-02-22T19:52:49+00:00 Thanks - I appreciate the response. I actually have a post going on their support forums as well, but figured I'd put one up here since it looks like it's a Windows driver issue (at least as far as I can tell). If it makes a difference, this is what I'm seeing when I try to establish a wireless network connection with the printer: 0 comments No comments

Anonymous 2015-02-23T00:30:32+00:00 I cannot connect to my printer either. Even though it appears on the list of printers one can install. When troubleshooting, I get that printer is online and ready-it doesn't receive the info sent. Any suggestions? 0 comments No comments

Anonymous 2015-02-23T17:22:43+00:00 I did, yeah. I downloaded the latest bundle and everything installed fine - it's just the connection piece I'm having trouble with. Do you happen to know what serscan.sys is? I read somewhere that it was a scan service native to Windows, but that was in the context of XP. That makes me think HP shouldn't be looking for it, but I don't know for sure. 0 comments No comments
